Will the Auto Injector work with my 3 mL syringe for IVF / PIO injections?

The Auto Injector’s 3 mL syringe holder is designed for the BD (Becton Dickinson) 3 mL syringe, which provides the best fit and proper needle extension.

Some 3 mL syringes supplied by fertility clinics or pharmacies have a shorter syringe body, even though they are still labeled 3 mL. When these are placed in the injector, part of the needle may remain outside the skin during the injection. This can be concerning, particularly with the 1½-inch needles commonly used for progesterone in oil (PIO).

For the best experience, we recommend using a compatible BD or Exel 3 mL syringe whenever possible.

If your clinic or pharmacy provides a different syringe, check the syringe fit before your first injection. We are also adding IVF-specific setup and compatibility videos to help you identify the correct setup and avoid surprises on injection day.

Which syringes and needles are compatible with the Auto-Injector?

Other syringe brands may fit, but dimensions can vary between manufacturers — even when labeled as the same size. This is particularly important with 3 mL syringes commonly used for IVF and progesterone in oil (PIO) injections, as some have a shorter syringe body that can reduce how far the needle extends from the device.

For the best fit and most consistent experience, we recommend BD syringes whenever possible.

The Auto-Injector can accommodate needle lengths from ¼” to 1½” when used with an appropriate fitting syringe.
